LGBTQ+ Inclusive Practices for Aged Care

Join us for this FREE 2-hour online workshop facilitated by ACON Pride Training.

This focused workshop builds the practical knowledge and confidence needed to provide safe, respectful, and inclusive care for older LGBTQ+ people accessing aged care services.

Participants by the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe core LGBTQ+ concepts and the distinctions between gender, sexuality, and related identities, including key experiences of trans and gender diverse older people.

  • Recognise how historical discrimination, stigma, and lived experience influence the ageing, health, and help‑seeking behaviours of older LGBTQ+ people.

  • Identify common barriers older LGBTQ+ people face in aged care services and how these can impact trust, disclosure, and engagement.

  • Apply practical strategies to create safer, more inclusive interactions, including the use of respectful language, affirming communication, and small environmental or procedural changes.

  • Engage with case studies to explore real‑world scenarios and practice responding in ways that reduce stigma and support culturally safe care.

Spaces are limited, so if you are unable to attend, please email Community Industry Group @ admin@cigroup.org.au or call us on (02) 4256 4333 as soon as possible.
