From Team Member to Team Leader

  • Community Industry Group 26 Mortlock Avenue Port Kembla, NSW, 2505 Australia (map)

Join us for this 4 hour online workshop facilitated by Edward Birt.

This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who are making, or are about to make, the transition from team member to team leader. It is most impactful for:

• Newly promoted team leaders, supervisors, or managers who have been in their leadership role for less than twelve months

• Senior team members who have been identified for progression into a leadership role in the near future

• Experienced individual contributors stepping into people management responsibilities for the first time

• Managers of small teams without formal prior management training

The course is equally relevant whether participants are leading a team they were previously a member of or stepping into leadership of a new team. (Those with more established leadership experience would benefit more from advanced leadership development programs rather than this foundational workshop).

Participant will learn how to:

  • Articulate the key differences between the mindset, behaviours, and priorities of a team member versus a team leader, and why this shift is essential for effectiveness.

  • Identify the most common pitfalls new leaders encounter during the team member to leader transition and explain strategies to avoid or recover from them.

  • Apply the LEAD framework (Listen, Enable, Align, Develop) as a practical structure for their day-to-day leadership approach.

  • Demonstrate strategies for managing changed relationships with former peers, including setting clear expectations and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • Describe approaches to delegating effectively, letting go of individual contributor tasks, and measuring success through team outcomes.

  • Identify how to have early, honest conversations with their team to establish their leadership style, expectations, and ways of working.

  • Build a personal 30-day transition action plan outlining specific steps they will take to establish themselves confidently in their new leadership role.

Pricing: $100 for members and $150 for non-members.

Spaces are limited, so if you are unable to attend, please email Community Industry Group @ admin@cigroup.org.au or call us on (02) 4256 4333 as soon as possible. This training comes with a non-attendance guarantee of $50.00.
